Mac Business Solutions' Malaria Aide Efforts

Malawi Nepal Uganda Zambia Senegal Senegal Senegal Senegal

Mac Business Solutions donates a portion of funds for anti-malaria long-lasting insecticidal nets.

The nets are distributed by the Foundation Against Malaria and their local partners. AMF (againstmalaria.com) provides funding for long-lasting insecticide-treated net (LLIN) distributions (for protection against malaria) in developing countries.

Malaria kills half a million people every year and 400 million fall ill. Before bed nets were made available, it was three or more times that. Nets are a proven intervention - a more effective a way of saving lives than any other.

There is still a long way to go and every death from malaria is preventable.

  • 70% of the deaths are children under 5
  • Malaria is the world's single largest killer of pregnant women
  • 90% of the deaths are in sub-Saharan Africa

Yet malaria is totally preventable and treatable. Nobody need die. Prevention is better than treatment.

  • The most effective means of prevention is sleeping under a mosquito net
  • Specifically a Long-Lasting Insecticide treated Net (LLIN)
  • Every 50-250 nets distributed and installed equals 1 life saved

About the Against Malaria Foundation

The Against Malaria Foundation funds anti-malaria nets, specifically long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs), and work with distribution partners to ensure they are used. They track and report on net use and malaria case data, buying nets and working with distribution partners who organise and fund the distribution of the nets.

The Foundation distributes nets to achieve 'universal coverage' - every sleeping space covered. This prevents the pregnant malaria-carrying mosquito getting a blood meal. If she cannot feed for 10-12 days she cannot reproduce. 'Breaking transmission' can lead to a dramatic fall in the malaria-carrying mosquito population and in malaria levels.
