Epson understands that superior image quality, speed, performance, and reliability are all equally important. Found exclusively within Epson printers, our new MicroPiezo AMC print head, Variable sized dot technology, and Active Meniscus Control (AMC) technology combine to deliver unprecedented image quality, iron-clad reliability, and faster print speeds. Unlike thermal-type print heads that use heat to spray droplets onto a page, MicroPiezo print heads use electrical pulses that place smaller ink droplets onto a page. This increased precision eliminates uncontrolled ink spray that leads to non-photographic overspray or “satellites” associated with thermal technology. MicroPiezo print heads produce higher resolution, smaller dot sizes, and more precise dot shapes and dot placement than thermal technology. The result? Amazing print quality that thermal technology can’t match. Furthermore, MicroPiezo print heads are designed to last for the life of your printer.
- Print head design handles 8 separate ink channels
- One-inch wide, high performance print head with 180 nozzles per channel
- Cutting-edge ink repelling coating dramatically reduces nozzle clogging
- Designed to last for life of printer
- Produces variable-sized droplets as small as 3.5 picoliters to greatly decrease print times while optimizing photographic quality
- AMC™ technology precisely controls the curvature of every ink droplet within each nozzle before releasing it onto the media for extreme precision and accuracy
Epson AccuPhoto HD Screening Technology
Epson’s breakthrough AccuPhoto™ HD screening technology uses a radical new algorithm for determining dot placement, resulting in exceptional photographic image quality. Its ability to compensate for various ink densities between resolutions enables a single ICC profile to be used per media type.
Advanced screening algorithm resulting in prints with superior color and clarity- Maximum resolution of 2880 x 1440 dpi for incredibly sharp text and line art
- Extremely accurate fine blends and photographic transitions
- Highly precise screening technology uses a radical new algorithm for determining dot placement, resulting in exceptional photographic image quality
- Produces extremely fine photographic prints, even in bi-directional and lower resolution print modes
Two User-Exchangeable Black Ink Modes

Epson UltraChrome™ K3 ink and UltraChrome™ K3 with Vivid Magenta ink use 2 different black ink modes to optimize black ink density for various media types. The standard Photo Black ink mode can be used for any media type with professional results. However, for certain Epson media types such as Velvet Fine Art, Enhanced Matte, and UltraSmooth Fine Art, using the optional Matte Black ink mode dramatically increases black optical density for even better print quality.
Key Benefits
- 2 specific user-exchangeable black ink modes -
Photo Black and Matte Black - Optimizes black ink density for various media types dramatically improving final print quality
- Enables use of just one printer for all media types
Professional Media Handling
- Prints on virtually any media type, in roll or cut sheet, up to 24-inches wide
- All media is front-loaded via a unique straight-through media path
- Accurate automatic loading of cut sheet media up to 24-inches wide in a variety of weights up to 1.5mm thick posterboard
- User-adjustable Roll Media Spindle accepts either 2-inch or 3-inch media cores
- Produces impositions based upon a work-and-turn process, allowing for printing on both sides of certain media types
- Built-in Automatic Cutting System supporting most media types
- Optional Manual Media Cutter for cutting even the thickest of media types
Advanced Black-and-White Printing Technology
The Advanced Black and White Printing mode is a unique Epson screening and color management technology developed to produce darkroom-quality black and white prints from either color or grayscale files. This unique driver takes full advantage of the three-level black technology to produce professional black-and-white prints from color or grayscale image files.
- Includes unique screening technology developed specifically for black-and-white printing
- Creates truly consistent images with no color crossover or color cast
- Produces high-quality sellable neutral or toned black and white prints from a single ink set
Automatic Print Head Alignment
Automatic Print Head Alignment comes standard on all Epson Stylus Pro printers. The built-in sensor technology inside the printer provides unmatched accuracy and automates the process for increased convenience.
16-bit Printer Drivers
Epson 16-bit printer drivers give our Stylus Pro printers the ability to work in an entirely 16-bit workflow on Apple® Macintosh® OS X operating systems. This highly precise driver technology overcomes previous driver limitations and enables extremely accurate transitions and gradations in the final prints.
Epson PreciseColor Manufacturing

Epson PreciseColor Manufacturing brings a new level of consistency to the printing process. Through this enhanced manufacturing process that includes colorimetric calibration, Epson ensures that individual printers of the same model produce prints that are indistinguishable from each other.
Key Benefits
- Ensures consistent printing between multiple Epson Stylus Pro printers of the same model
- Eliminates the need for internal calibration devices
- Evaluates and adjusts each printer's performance at the manufacturing stage
- Ensures production of consistent color output from printer to printer
