A new public beta, web-based service from Apple that lets you share your iWork ’09 documents, spreadsheets, and presentations in a way that’s both simple and smart. Because iWork.com is web-based, the projects you publish to it can be viewed by anyone using a current browser. You don’t need to know whether your colleagues use a Mac or a PC. Publish your work and invite others to view it without ever leaving Pages, Numbers, or Keynote. Just click the iWork.com button in the toolbar, and your document, spreadsheet, or presentation is uploaded instantly. Mac OS X Mail sends each invited reviewer a unique URL.
Pages '09
Full-screen view
When your desktop is cluttered, it can be hard to focus on what you’re writing. Now Pages ’09 lets you see your document full screen. With a click, distractions instantly disappear and your words become the most important thing on the screen.
Dynamic outlines
It’s easier to write when your ideas are structured. The new Outline mode helps you organize your thoughts so your writing stays on track. Create a detailed outline with multiple levels. Collapse and expand topics and subtopics. Drag and drop to reorganize. Inline images and movies appear in your outline either as thumbnails or at actual size.
Mail merge with Numbers
Now it’s even easier to address invitations, create invoices, personalize letters, and build mailing lists. Enhanced mail merge in Pages ’09 works directly with a Numbers table or Address Book. In just a few clicks, you can merge your contacts or any type of data and easily create customized documents.
Enhanced Template Chooser
Find inspiration for your writing or design project even faster. Over 180 Apple-designed templates are included - professional letters, detailed lab reports, beautiful cards, modern flyer layouts, and more. Use the new Template Chooser to quickly skim, preview, and even resize each thumbnail. Choose one and you’re off to a great start.
MathType and EndNote
In Pages ’09, you can now create sophisticated equations for research papers, lab reports, and journal articles using MathType 6. Compose your equations with the MathType point-and-click equation editor and instantly add them to your Pages document. Pages also works with EndNote X2. Choose from over 3800 bibliographic styles supported by EndNote X2 and easily insert citations into your Pages document.
More ways to share
Share your Pages documents with anyone on a Mac or PC. You can open Microsoft Word files in Pages and save your Pages documents as Word files. Thanks to powerful graphics tools in Pages, it's easy to make Word documents look great. Pages also lets you export your documents as PDF files. With the new email option, send Pages, Word, or PDF files right from Pages using Mac OS X Mail. Or upload your work to iWork.com Public Beta, Apple’s new document-sharing service. Reviewers can view your document on the web, make comments, and download it in a format that works best for them.
Numbers '09
Easy formulas
What comes naturally to some now comes automatically to everyone. Writing formulas is easy in Numbers ’09. Over 250 functions are included; just click and choose one. Along with each function is a clear explanation of the formula and built-in help. You can even assemble formulas using visual placeholders for each variable. Just click a placeholder, then choose a value to include in your formula.
Formula List view
A spreadsheet contains many sheets, tables, numbers, and formulas. How do you keep track of them all? With the new Formula List view, you can see every calculation in your spreadsheet at one time. Click the Formula List button in the toolbar to see the list, and then jump to a specific formula. You can also search for formulas, functions, or cell references.
Table categories
When there are large sets of data in one spreadsheet, it can be difficult to make sense of it all. With one click, you can now group rows based on data in any column and create table categories. Each category includes a summary row. Using just the summary row, it’s easy to collapse, expand, and rearrange the categories. Add functions to each summary row - subtotals, averages, count, miniumum, and maximum - to organize your data even more.
Advanced charts
Numbers ’09 features even more impressive options for 2D charts. Combine line, column, and area series in a single mixed chart. Create 2-axis charts with different value scales. Easily apply trendlines and error bars. With just one click, your data is more compelling.
Linked charts
Now Numbers, Pages, and Keynote work together to keep all your data on the same page. Create charts in Numbers and paste them into Pages documents or Keynote presentations. They’ll stay linked to the original data in Numbers. Even if the chart styles, textures, colors, and fonts are different, the data is the same. When you make a change to your data, update your linked charts with a click. In Pages and Keynote, you can easily access your original Numbers document or unlink the data at any time.
Enhanced Template Chooser
Need some spreadsheet-making inspiration? Professional-looking, Apple-designed templates make it easy to start. Numbers ’09 brings you 12 new ideas and designs - 30 templates total. Choose a checking register, savings calculator, or retirement savings template. Create a baby record or garden journal. Keep track of your weight and workouts. Explore the possibilities.
Keynote '09
Magic Move
The new Magic Move feature lets you add a sophisticated animation using a quick and simple process. Just select Magic Move as the transition between consecutive slides with a repeated object - your company’s logo, for example - and watch as that object changes location, scale, opacity, and rotation automatically. The result is a beautifully executed effect that will amaze your audience and you.
Enhanced Theme Chooser
Now choosing the right theme for your presentation is easier than ever. An enhanced Theme Chooser lets you resize theme thumbnails to see the included fonts, colors, and textures more clearly. View all the slide designs associated with a theme simply by skimming over them. And Keynote ’09 adds eight new themes to offer you even more choices. Choose Showroom for a clean, polished feel or Kyoto with its look of serenity.
Text and object-based transitions
Let your words and graphics really play onscreen. In just a few clicks, you can apply text and object transitions that look as if they were created by your own special effects team. Make the words from one slide morph into those on the next. Then watch a graphic zoom toward the crowd, and change into a completely different image.
3D charts and chart animations
Make your charts as impressive as the rest of your presentation. New 3D textures and animations add depth and movement and a touch of fun. Insert a pie chart with a beveled edge or animate a bar chart using Crane or Radial effects.
Keynote Remote
Keynote Remote lets you use your iPhone or iPod touch to control your presentation from anywhere in the room using Wi-Fi. See your slide with notes or both the current slide and the next slide in the palm of your hand. Just swipe to advance.
